DanceNation Dress Code

Our dress code helps teachers see each dancer’s technique and keeps everyone safe. Please come to class dressed and ready to dance.

Ballet/Tap

(Ages 2-5)
 

Ballet/Jazz/Lyrical Combo Classes

(Ages 2–5)

Girls

  • Light pink leotard (attached skirt is okay)

  • Light pink or skin tone convertible tights

  • Light pink or skin tone ballet shoes

  • Black tap shoes for tap or tan half soles for jazz/lyrical

  • Hair in a neat, slicked-back bun

  • No shorts or baggy clothing

Boys

  • White t-shirt or tank top

  • Black shorts or leggings

  • Black or white leather full-sole ballet shoes

  • Black, non-shiny tap shoes

  • Hair pulled back off the face and neck

  • No jeans or baggy clothing

Ballet Classes

Girls

Wear the correct leotard color for your level:​

  • Intro to Ballet: Ballet Pink

  • Level 1: Lavender

  • Level 2: Mulberry

  • Levels 3 & 4: Red

  • Mighty Mini Company: Light Blue

  • Mini Company: Peacock

  • Junior Company: Royal Blue

  • Teen Company: Navy Blue

  • Senior Company: Black

Leotards must be solid colors with no prints, cutouts, or attached skirts.

Also wear:

Light pink or skin tone convertible tights

Matching ballet shoes (shoe color should match tights)

Hair in a neat, slicked-back bun

No skirts, shorts, tutus, or baggy clothing

For summer classes, any solid-colored leotard is allowed.

Boys

  • White t-shirt

  • Black or white leather full-sole ballet shoes

  • Hair pulled back off the face and neck

  • No jeans or baggy clothing

Jazz, Lyrical & Flexibility

Girls

  • Fitted dancewear or athletic wear (leotard, sports bra, tank top, leggings, biker shorts, tights, or briefs)

  • Tan half soles (lyrical or pirouette shoes)

  • Hair pulled back in a bun or ponytail

  • No skirts, jeans, or baggy clothing

Boys

  • Fitted athletic clothing

  • Tan half soles

  • Hair pulled back off the face and neck

  • No baggy clothing

Tap 

Girls

  • Fitted dancewear or athletic wear

  • Black, non-shiny tap shoes

  • Hair pulled back in a bun or ponytail

  • No skirts, jeans, or baggy clothing

Boys

  • Fitted athletic clothing

  • Black, non-shiny tap shoes

  • Hair pulled back off the face and neck

  • No jeans or baggy clothing

Hip-Hop

All Ages

  • Fun streetwear or athletic clothing

  • Clean tennis shoes

  • Hair pulled back off the face and neck

  • No jazz shoes or bare feet

Acro/Tumble 

Boys & Girls

  • Tight, fitted athletic clothing

  • Bare feet only

  • Hair pulled back off the face and neck

  • No loose or baggy clothing

Dress Code Rules 

 All Classes

  • No jewelry. Small stud earrings are okay.

  • Leg warmers and sweaters may be worn during warm-up only.

  • Zip-up jackets must stay zipped.

  • Only Acro, Tumble, Stretch & Conditioning, and Kinesiology classes may be barefoot.

  • Dancewear should be modest and appropriate.

  • Teachers must be able to see each dancer’s body lines, so avoid loose or baggy clothing.

  • Hair must always be pulled back and away from the face.

Ballet Tights

  • Ballet classes require footed tights.

  • Convertible tights are recommended because dancers can quickly change for another class.

  • “Ballet Pink” is the correct shade. Please do not wear hot pink or theatrical pink.

  • Skin tone tights and shoes are encouraged for dancers with darker skin tones.

Between Classes

If you have ballet followed by another dance class, do not change clothes.

  • Keep your ballet leotard on.

  • Take your feet out of your convertible tights if needed.

  • Change into the correct shoes.

  • Keep your hair in a bun.
